Installation And Basic ConfigurationInstallation is simple, just unzip the installer from the downloaded file, double click on the installer and follow the on screen instructions (when selected shortcuts are installed for all users). As well as installing the program this will also install the help pages. ProcOff can be safely installed over previous installations but it will need re-configuring if the configuration file is overwritten. The existing configuration file will be copied to ProcOff.old. Start the program and enter the registration code to start using ProcOff. See Configuration for details of the parameters that can be varied. To access the configuration screen double click on the tray icon and then click the Configure button from the main screen. The default values should be fine for most applications if remote control is not used, however at least one process to monitor must be set before the program will work. If the program will not work properly check out Configuration and FAQ for suggestions. The program can only be installed and configured by a user with administrative privileges. Installing ProcOff Slave to the same location as ProcOff will only convert ProcOff into ProcOff Slave and vice versa Note: If you are upgrading from version 1.0 it is recommended you uninstall version 1.0 first to stop duplicate entries for ProcOff in the Add/Remove Programs list. Shutting Down A Remote ComputerInstall the ProcOff Slave (by selecting Slave from the program section of the installer) on the remote computer and configure the program with the address of the local computer. See Configuration for details of the other parameters that can be varied for the remote computer. You will also need to set the remote address on the local computer. The ProcOff Slave will not start minimised or run until it is configured. The program can only be installed and configured by a user with administrative privileges. Multiple Instances And InstallationsIt is only possible to run one instance of ProcOff at a time. ProcOff and ProcOff Slave can not be run at the same time on one computer. ProcOff and ProcOff Slave can only exist on the same computer if they are installed into different locations. If ProcOff is in shutdown mode when an attempt to start a second instance occurs the error message will open beneath the first program window which will take priority. SecurityIf remote shutdown is used this program may compromise network security if it is used on insecure networks, this depends on the network and any firewall configuration, for this reason it is recommended remote shutdown is only used across local area networks. You will need appropriate access privileges to the remote computer to use the slave program. Uninstalling ProcOffTo uninstall ProcOff or ProcOff Slave use the Windows Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. If you wish to retain any files copy them to a temporary location before uninstalling. All program files and directories in the program root directory (normally c:\program files\JSutils\ProcOff\) are removed including those created by the program. |
