What Are The Benefits Of ProcOff?

You can define when the functions are activated - either after a fixed delay or a fixed time and get the opportunity to cancel shutdown rather than it just happening. There is flexibility in the timing. ProcOff can also shut down one remote computer at the same time. The program can monitor up to three processes at a time. Optionally an open program will not stop computer shutdown. It is also possible to set a fixed shutdown time or a fixed delay before shutdown, either independently or in conjunction with other options. A readily accessible log of use is available. It can apply to all users making configuration easier and more consistent.

Which Operating Systems Does ProcOff Support?

ProcOff is designed to work on WIndows 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows XP including Service Packs 1, 2 and 3, WIndows Vista including Service Packs 1 and 2 and Windows 7 including Service Pack 1. Windows NT, 95, 98 & ME are NOT supported.

What Is The Difference Between A Process And A Service

A process is an instance of a running application. An application may have more than one process running at the same time. A service is a process which runs in the background and does not interact with the desktop. Services are normally started by the system rather than the user.

How Do I Find Out The Process Name

To monitor a running program you need to know the process name which is not always obvious. To find out the process name open Windows Task Manager by pressing <Control> + <Alt> + <Delete> and then select the processes tab. The process names are listed on the left. If it is not obvious with the program running which is the process name shut down all running programs and take a note of what processes are running and then start the program you are interested in - you will be able to get the name by a process of elimination. The process name must be entered in ProcOff exactly as shown.

Can Remote Shutdown Be Used On A System Running A DHCP Server?

Yes provided you use the computer names but if you use ProcOff with IP addresses the computers with ProcOff or ProcOff Slave installed must have the IP addresses set to fixed on the DHCP server. This point only applies if the slave program is used.

Are There Any Issues Using ProcOff on WIndows Vista And Windows 7 With User Account Control Turned On?

There are no known issues when UAC is enabled on Vista and Windows 7.

Can ProcOff Be Installed Over An Existing Version?

Yes, there are no known problems installing over the top of an existing installation. To keep the default settings do not allow the configuration file to be overwritten when prompted. The existing configuration file will be copied to ProcOff.old. The only exceptions are when downgrading to an earlier version of the program or upgrading from version 1.0, in these cases uninstall the old program first.

Why Does ProcOff Stop Without Shutting Down The Local Computer?

This could be caused by a firewall program blocking the operation of ProcOff in which case add ProcOff to the list of acceptable programs.

Why Does ProcOff Stop Without Shutting Down The Remote Computer?

This could be caused by a firewall program blocking the operation of the ProcOff Slave or communications with ProcOff on the local or remote computer in which case add ProcOff to the list of acceptable programs on the remote and or local computer.

Why Does The Computer Hibernate Before Before ProcOff Can Operate?

How Do I Check The Digital Signature Of A File

Right click on the file, select properties and the digital signature tab. Select the signer name and click on Details. You will then be able to access details of the certificate and timestamp. Only executable files are signed. If the digital signature tab does not exist the file is not signed.
