Configuration - General Main Program Configuration Slave Program Configuration

Below is a screen shot of the main program configuration screen showing the various parameters that can be set. Hovering over the various fields will display the tool tips with extra information. Errors will be flagged by a status message at the bottom of the screen when Save is clicked and the parameter(s) involved will also be highlighted. If no name is entered for a Slave the IP address or domain name will be displayed. You must enter a name for the Local Computer and an IP address or domain name for at least one remote computer. Any errors must be fixed before new data can be saved. The configuration file can be found in the data directory of the program (usually c:\program files\JSutils\LANOff\Data) and is called LANOffM.ini.

The Log Level can be set to None, Normal or Full. If the log file path is changed the path must end with '\'.The alternate log path must be created manually and the permissions set to suit the required operation if it does not already exist before running the program. If the log level is set to Full configuration details are written to the log file when the configuration screen is closed if any changes have been saved, in addition configuration details are written to the log file each time the program starts.

Clicking on Fixed Time Activation enables the program activation to be set to a fixed time using the 24 hour clock rather than a preset delay after start up. If the reset button is clicked or the program started once the activation time has passed activation will be immediate.

Clicking on Fixed Time Shutdown enables the program shutdown initiation to be set to a fixed time using the 24 hour clock. This time takes priority over the CPU and Keyboard/Mouse activity timers. If the reset button is clicked once the shutdown time has passed fixed time shutdown will be set to the defined time the next day. If the Fixed Shutdown Time is earlier than the Fixed Activation Time then shutdown will be set to the defined time the next day.

Unsetting the Force checkbox stops running programs being forced to close for reboot, power off and shutdown only.

Setting the User Exit checkbox disables the Exit button and Close dialog plus the system tray icon right click menu for non administrative users. Non administrative users can still restore the program from the system tray by double clicking on it.

You can use either an IP address or if the domain name check box is ticked a fully qualified domain name (on systems without a Directory Name Server you can also use the computer name) for the local and remote computers.

When using the slave it is recommended the TX and RX ports are only changed if there is a clash with another program. Windows takes a little while to release in use ports so if you swap the TX & RX ports over for any reason a Port In Use error message may occur. A similar error may occur if the master and slave are both configured and running and the RX port is changed on either the master or slave. If this occurs accept the option to end the program and restart it. This message will also pop up if there is a port clash with another program. if you do change ports remember to change both main and slave programs to use the same ports.

The configuration screen will timeout after 600 seconds if left open, there is a warning message 90 seconds before closure which appears at the top of the screen and counts down before this happens.

By clicking on the Archive button the log file can either be saved and a new one created or just cleared. Archived results log files are stored in the same directory as the log file using the file naming convention LANOffM_<year><month><day>_z.log where z is a number starting at 1 allowing multiple files to be archived on a single day.

The Archive, View Log, Restore and Save functions are only available when running with administarative privileges.

The Restore button will reset the program back to it's default parameters but leave all IP addresses, ports and computer names unchanged.
